DNA has been "in the open" for 50+ years. We all know this molecule governs our lives, and that no one is identical. Yet deciphering the genomic code and syntax, and hence understanding who we are, remains one of the very last
"grand challenges".
We at cracker believe that to crack the code, we need to sequence millions of genomes, spanning the whole spectrum of life forms. This accounts for our vision of a cheap, portable and ultra-high throughput sequencing device (and its associated downstream technology). Not only will our technology make the promise of personalized medical care for individual patients, a reality for all, but it will impact on basic science and medicine, reaching out across society, such as in agriculture and environmental protection.
